1889 Enoteca

Enoteca is where savvy Brisbanites head when they want to impress out-of-town guests. As you begin with, say, a duck terrine served with ciabatta and lightly pickled and still slightly warm grapes, you can smile and recommend the wild-shot venison osso buco on polenta with truffled pecorino and hazelnut oil, or perhaps fat slices of crisp-skinned porchetta arrosto with green olives and spinach. The lovely, cosy heritage digs, which also house a vinaio, feature an intimate dining area, with seating a mixture of booths and a gorgeously upholstered banquette along one wall. Service is laidback and friendly, and as you’d expect, the Italian wine selection is stellar. Cheese is an excellent way to finish, accompanied with something sweet from the wine list, or seal the deal with a classic pud such as the bonet, a caramel-coated chocolate custard served with clotted cream and cherry ice-cream.
