Bells at Killcare

Nautical striped walls and elegant chandeliers greet you as you step into the foyer of Bells at Killcare, the chic beachside décor flowing into the light and airy dining room. A magnet for Sydneysiders escaping the city, Bells is a little like coming home to nonna’s cooking – if nonna had a coastal retreat with a penchant for the finer things in life. Grilled seafood spiedini is heavy on the seasoning but deftly balanced with a zingy cabbage salad and salsa salmoriglio. Delicate house-made cannelloni encase rich buffalo milk ricotta, and a simple almond milk panna cotta is lifted by slivers of tart nectarine. The floor staff are chatty and exuberant, once you have their attention, but the wine list is formidable and dispatched with thoughtful advice. (It’s a pity, though, to be served in glasses adorned with kitsch starfish.) Little wonder Bells is a busy weekend destination.
