My fiance and I have been living in Melbourne a little over a year now, we dont get out all that often but when we do we have no idea where to go!! We live South East of Melbourne and dont mind travelling..

We arent in to the pub scene, we are in search of a place that is a little more relaxed.

Some great food, live music, maybe a bit of jazz or even a good cover band. Soft lighting and a fire place would be ideal. (not trying to push my luck) A few leather lounges even.. Basically somewhere we can dine and have a few drinks and relax....

Can you help us???

You could try the aviary in abbotsford, i haven't been there but it looks like it may have everything you're looking for. there's also riva in st kilda. and there are lots of good pubs in richmond and south melbourne.

On a recent visit to Melbourne we went to a really groovy and cosy little bar called The Highlander - Highlander lane in the CBD. They ordered in delicious pizzas for us from around the corner and we had a cosy booth to ourselves. They played cool laid back house music and the staff were very friendly. Not a great wine list but ok and cheap.

On another night we went to a place called the European after a couple of recommendations. The Wine Bar which we started in was really lovely but upon moving into the restaurant we were really disappointed. Ok food but a tad over priced. However the biggest negative factor was the staff and surroundings. VERY pretentious and obnoxious and thought they were too cool for school. The 6 of us noticed this and would not go back. We could not work out what we had done wrong to deserve such treatment. Anyway, don't go there. We also went to a really cool pub/restaurant at St Kilda, can't recall the name sorry, right next to the St Kilda Bath House on the beachfront. Really nice food (great antipasto platter) and live music, atmosphere and the staff were lovely. Good luck!

Thanks Sim for the recomendations... Sounds like we have similar taste.... The Highlander sounds great, and so does the place at St Kilda, a little closer to home too... Thank you :)
