There are few greater show-off restaurants in the world, and even fewer where babes of both genders fresh off the beach mingle so freely with the special-occasion crowd. It’s that kind of place, with a menu and breezy setting equal to crab sandwiches and prosciutto-wrapped grissini in the bar over afternoon Champagne or pulling out all the stops in the dining room. There’s chef Robert Marchetti’s salumi or crab with soft polenta and chilli to start, then the cucina rustica-gone-luxe likes of nettle and Cognac-fortified chicken broth with zucchini or split-pea and cardoon soup with pork crackling. Main courses are typically simply cooked prime cuts; dress your fish with almond alioli or salt, soft herbs and oil, or accessorise your beef (so good it now has its own menu, ‘a study in beef’) with lemon and mustard. Desserts aren’t a highlight; lash out on excellent sides instead.
