Whitewashed timbers, wicker chairs and ceiling fans create a breezy ambience at this much-loved Adelaide stalwart. A contemporary menu, snappy service and an appealing riverside setting keep things as fresh as ever. Tony Carroll cooks with flair and confidence in dishes such as ginger and lemongrass dumplings served in a crab and corn consommé and his signature crisp fried tea-smoked duck paired with plum and tamarind. Japanese flavours are expertly handled in seared wagyu with enoki, mizuna and mustard, and the excellent caramelised miso kingfish in a rich wakame, soy and ginger broth dotted with black and white sesame seeds and laced with soba noodles. The eipcureans will enjoy his oozy chocolate fondant with an inventive side of smoked chocolate ice-cream. Attentive, sharp staff and a well-balanced wine list round out the experience.
