In a beautiful heritage-listed building with soaring ceilings, situated at the quieter end of the CBD, Two looks out to the restful green of the Botanic Gardens. David Pugh’s menu is contemporary without any pointless airs. Mandarin-scented risotto and a cube of soft-cooked pumpkin are the attractive accompaniment to scallops. An Asian-style omelette studded with Noosa crab and served with nam prik sauce and stir-fried vegetables is the perfect lunchtime dish, while ocean trout is enlivened by a tomato and anchovy ragoût and a lush smoky tomato butter. Desserts range from chocolate doughnuts with caramelised banana, cinnamon ice-cream and chocolate sauce, to pomelo and mint Mojito with a square of mint and white rum jelly and coconut sorbet. The wine list is big enough to lose yourself in but staff are well versed in guiding diners towards suitable matches.
