This cavernous, dark-hued masculine place of leather, wood and metal comes into its own under cover of darkness. The well-heeled, clubby atmosphere – coupled with finely tuned wait-staff and an impressive wine list – is simpatico with both Rockpool’s position as the city’s best steakhouse and its location at the posh end of Crown casino. The steaks are beyond reproach in their range and handling, but the lengthy menu provides plenty of less beefy options. Neil Perry’s produce fastidiousness means the seafood – whether a simple sashimi of tuna and kingfish, Tasmanian clams tossed through pasta or Ortiz anchovies on bruschetta with wood-grilled peppers – is as thoroughly vetted for flavour and quality as the meat. Even sides, such as sweet, boiled whole organic carrots, see exact cooking that allows great produce to shine. At Rockpool Bar & Grill, you get what you pay for.
