Taxi Dining Room

Taxi satisfies a broad range of diners, from young couples out on the splurge to local foodies, by combining a smart, modern interior, stunning views across the Yarra River, well-drilled service and Michael Lambie’s inventive food. Japanese flavours and techniques enliven many dishes. Firm blue-eye comes wrapped in beancurd, fried and offset by pickled walnuts, creamed spinach and ginger; king prawns in a shaggy kataifi coat are lifted by a pumpkin and daikon salad and the nutty sweetness of sesame and tamarind; meltingly tender wagyu is charred and teamed simply with a sesame dipping sauce; and Sichuan duck, flesh juicy and skin perfectly crisp, gets a fruity acid punch from peach, pickled cucumber and a schnapps jus. Desserts are show-stoppers – dark chocolate tian with caramel and candied macadamias – and beautiful enough to be displayed in the NGV next door.
