The Chairman & Yip

Offering a consistently crowd-pleasing take on East-meets-West, The Chairman and Yip has been a vibrant part of the Canberra dining scene for more than 16 years. Wait-staff maintain a level of gentle attentiveness and the kitchen staff a speediness that grander establishments would do well to emulate. Flavours are bold, as with a first course of crisp-skinned quail dressed with honey and pepper, not to mention the char-grilled mushrooms with coriander-chilli pesto. Pork chops with red dates, ginseng and honey makes for a generous main course, as does the ginger and spring onion lobster. Desserts lean to the West, as in the case of the signature panna cotta. The décor is eclectic: think chandeliers, dark furniture, sparkly gold curtains and a Frank Gehry-style wavy silver wall. This mix-and-match approach is both endearing and inviting, just like the food.
