The Ginger Room

An orange light on the hill shines brightly, bathing the rear entrance of Old Parliament House. Inside is a classy Deco space forged from the prime minister’s former private dining room. The Ginger Room’s Euro-Asian narrative weaves through the menu, evident in both quail and coriander with a shiitake mushroom risotto and a black rice and palm sugar pudding with poached quince. In fact, the menu is a great read, but the lack of bite in a spanner crab bisque is indicative of the need to lift the execution to a standard befitting the décor, ambience and location. Floor staff have their heart in the right place, and the excellent cheese selection is backed by some French expertise. The knock-out wine list gets a boost every month with rolling additions. At these prices, is there a more appropriate place to outlay the proceeds of the next fiscal stimulus package?
