A handsome makeover is the first sign of far-reaching changes in this tiny restaurant on one of Adelaide’s more salubrious shopping strips. Owner Simon Kardachi has turned his attention from the fine dining that distinguished the site’s former restaurant, The Melting Pot, to a more down-to-earth experience. The resulting bistro wins big points for its whole-hearted French menu and flexibility, from service times to a wine list that offers every full-size bottle under $100 as a half bottle, at half the price. The menu of shared tasting plates is available from lunch until late, ranging from scrambled egg and crab, a terrine of pork, lamb’s brains and date, a salad of iceberg hearts, Ortiz anchovies and egg, to roast suckling pig. Only a seafood pot disappoints. You’ll want the poffertjes (aka Dutch pancakes) all to yourself. The cellar offers exceptional wines at reasonable prices; a wine-lover’s paradise.
